INFORMATICA BEATS OUT COGNOS, MICROSTRATEGY, INFORMATION BUILDERS AND ACTUATE WITH LOWEST BI TCO IN MOST USE CASES
PowerAnalyzer demonstrates low overall cost of ownership in new benchmark study from Ventana Research
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 22, 2003 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration and business intelligence software, today announced that the Informatica PowerAnalyzer business intelligence platform achieved the lowest overall total cost of ownership (TCO) among leading business intelligence vendors in the most use case scenarios, according to new research conducted by Ventana Research of Belmont, Calif.
In the report, "Total Cost of Ownership for Business Intelligence and Performance Management" (September, 2003), Informatica PowerAnalyzer leads with the lowest TCO in the core capabilities required for a comprehensive business intelligence solution, including scalable ad-hoc query and analysis, dashboards, embedded support for Excel and robust extranet functionality via portal integration and information collaboration. PowerAnalyzer achieved the lowest TCO in 38 percent of Ventana's use case scenarios, 13 percent more scenarios than the second-place vendor. Informatica excelled in scenarios that included ad hoc ROLAP and portal integration for 10,000 users, where PowerAnalyzer's TCO was $1.2 and $1.5 million less than the most expensive vendor, respectively.
"TCO is an important and useful metric by which to manage business intelligence," said Eric Rogge, vice president and research director for business intelligence at Ventana Research. "Informatica provides proven lower cost of ownership for large-scale environments that need user-defined spreadsheets, dashboards and agents for 1,000 users, as well as ad-hoc ROLAP, information collaboration and portals for both 1,000 and 10,000 users. These lower costs are provided through the efficient use of hardware, attractive software prices, intuitive software functionality and reduced training costs."
Actuate, Cognos, Informatica, Information Builders and MicroStrategy participated in the study, allowing an independent audit of TCO for their solutions. Other vendors were offered the opportunity to participate, but declined. Ventana assessed hardware, software and personnel costs associated with each vendor's offerings for scenarios with 1,000 or 10,000 users, covering such areas as installation, configuration, maintenance, training, administration and end-user support for solutions running in Microsoft Windows and/or UNIX systems environments.
"This benchmark study recognizes Informatica's unique Internet-centric BI platform as well-suited for the needs of modern enterprises with its ability to reduce administration and enable broad deployment for users of all skill levels," said Sanjay Poonen, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Informatica. "PowerAnalyzer provides the highest value with the lowest TCO in scenarios that coincide with enterprise requirements for a scalable BI platform - serving casual users with dashboards, intelligent agents, information collaboration, portals and extranets, and serving power users with user-defined spreadsheets and ad-hoc ROLAP."
Recently recognized as a 2003 eWeek Excellence Award finalist and receiving "excellent" ratings for usability, capability and interoperability in an eWeek product review, Informatica PowerAnalyzer is a business intelligence solution that rapidly and easily delivers ad-hoc query and reporting, analysis, embedded Excel, and collaborative analytics via "out-of-the-box" dashboards. PowerAnalyzer is the only business intelligence platform offering a single, unified server and a pure Internet-centric architecture - designed for usability, scalability and extensibility - to ensure the lowest cost of ownership and quickest return-on-investment.
