What: Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the world’s number one independent leader in data integration software, announced today that James Markarian, chief technology officer, Informatica will be speaking on the “What’s Next for Hadoop: State of the Ecosystem and Changes Afoot” panel discussion being held during GigaOm’s sold out Structure:Data 2012 conference, March 21st - 22nd. The panel will be a comprehensive look at the Hadoop market and will also have representatives from Hadapt, HortonWorks and RainStor exploring the technical and business opportunities spurred by the growth of big data, including storage needs, data analysis and the uncovering of new revenue opportunities.
Who:
James Markarian serves as executive vice president and chief technology officer at Informatica, with responsibility for the strategic direction of Informatica products, including the delivery of the Informatica Platform. Previously, Markarian held the role of general manager of the Informatica Data Integration Business Unit, where he led the delivery of the flagship PowerCenter product, a key component of the Informatica Platform.
Prior to joining Informatica in 1998, Markarian spent 10 years at Oracle where he was architect for the Oracle Tools Division including responsibility for cross-product architectural planning and integration decisions. He also served on Oracle's Architecture Review Board. Markarian earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and economics and a master's degree in economics from Boston University.
Why: In its second year, over 750 attendees are expected to attend GigaOm’s Structure:Data to discuss data – especially big data, analytics and the solutions to manage them, including Hadoop.
Many organizations are beginning to look at Hadoop as an extension to their environments to tackle the volume, velocity and variety of big data. As a result, Hadoop adoption is likely to grow. In a recent Ventana Research survey of large-scale data users, more than half of the respondents stated that they are considering Hadoop within their environment.
Hadoop does not replace existing systems, instead it augments them by enabling the additional processing of large volumes of data so existing systems can focus on what they do best. Data integration plays a key role for organizations that want to combine Hadoop with data from multiple systems to realize breakthrough business insights not otherwise possible in order to take advantage of the unique strengths of each technology, and maximize performance of the overall environment.
