Breaking Down Barriers with MDM and Data Governance

St. Joseph Health (SJH) is a 17 hospital, values-based Catholic healthcare delivery system that operates across three states. SJH’s mission is to improve the health and quality of life of those they serve. The breadth and size of the hospital system and its services often caused challenges accessing information vital to providing quality care to its patients. In 2013, SJH began a master data management (MDM) and data governance program to ensure critical data managed across the enterprise was accessible and accurate. If managed properly, the data delivers tremendous insights for users, like SJH, who relies on the trusted data to make informed business decisions and improve patient service. This presentation highlights the stages of the program, and how SJH had to create buy-in to fund a program that does not traditionally have clear ROI, break down political barriers around data ownership, and ensure data stewardship became a core part of the organization to guarantee sustainable ROI.
