Informatica Launches Data Migration Suite

Enables rapid delivery of trusted data to meet business imperatives

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 19, 2008 -  Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading independent provider of data integration software, today announced the Informatica Data Migration Suite to help corporations manage the increasingly complex process of IT change resulting from mergers and acquisitions, consolidation and outsourcing of critical services and functions.

According to an October 2007 study by Bloor Research, the budget for data migration projects undertaken by Global 2000 companies will rise 10 percent annually exceeding $8 billion by 2012, as data migration continues to be pivotal to new application implementations, application consolidations and upgrades, and mergers and acquisitions. However, 84 percent of the projects studied came in late or over-budget, resulting in costs overruns averaging 30 percent.

Drawing on extensive experience in implementing successful data migrations projects, the Informatica Data Migration Suite provides the only independent software platform specifically designed to ensure the success of data migration projects. The Suite is comprised of Informatica's proven data integration and data quality tools, including PowerExchange, PowerCenter, Informatica Data Explorer and Informatica Data Quality, specifically packaged together to support data migration projects. In conjunction with Informatica's proven Velocity Migration Methodology and end-to-end migration services capability, the Suite provides a comprehensive solution addressing the data migration needs of enterprise customers. Ensuring rapid migration implementations, minimizing errors and substantially mitigating the risks inherent to all data migration projects, the solution shortens the time to results.

"With a strong data integration heritage, Informatica has brought to market a unique offering that addresses the needs of the business, helping to eliminate the traditional difficulty and riskiness of data migration projects," said Philip Howard, Research Director, Bloor Research. "Data migrations are unique business projects that require the support of an independent migration-friendly project methodology and platform that promotes effective project lifecycle management - and it is good to see Informatica introducing specialized facilities to support this."

"Data migration is invariably part of strategic initiatives such as M&A consolidation or new application implementation, yet most organizations treat it as merely a tactical challenge. It is usually addressed in an ad hoc fashion, contributing to the high rate of failure," said Girish Pancha, executive vice president and general manager, Enterprise Data Integration Business Unit, Informatica. "The Informatica Data Migration Suite is the first comprehensive offering that enables organizations to take a strategic approach to migration, ensuring success in delivering trusted information wherever and however it is needed."

Informatica's data migration solution is built on three pillars, each instrumental to a successful migration project. These include:

  • the Informatica Data Migration Suite - best-in-class data access, data quality and data conversion software optimized for data migration projects;
  • the Informatica VelocitySM Migration Methodology - enabling the rapid and successful implementation of data migration projects; and
  • End-to-End Migration Services - providing expert data integration and data quality resources from Informatica and its global network of partners.
