KaMin Accelerates Divesture By Six Months With Informatica Data Subset Solution

Largest Producer Of Kaolin Clay Saves Over $1 Million And Months Of Effort Divesting Critical Data From Former Parent

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., December 01, 2009 -

News facts

  • Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the number one independent provider of data integration software, today announced that KaMin, LLC, the leading producer of kaolin clay, has used Informatica Data Subset to accelerate by six months the divesture of its IT systems and business data from its former parent company, J.M. Huber, saving in the process more than $1 million and enabling the company to operate that much more quickly as an independent leader in the global kaolin market.
  • The automated Informatica subset solution enabled KaMin to streamline the process of creating a smaller, targeted version of its Oracle E-Business Suite database from the larger, highly customized and complex J.M. Huber database (including 600 custom tables), separating and deleting the data along business lines.
  • In addition to helping KaMin come to market as a separate entity much faster and less expensively than would have been possible using traditional data divesture solutions, the Informatica solution substantially reduced the risk associated with divestiture by accurately filtering all the data, ensuring that all sensitive parent company data was deleted, and reliably meeting the aggressive deadlines.
  • In terms of total time savings, KaMin estimates that its use of Informatica Data Subset enabled it to complete the divestiture in less than half the time it would have taken using traditional hand-coded techniques, as well as being faster than implementing a new Oracle instance.
  • In terms of savings, the Informatica solution enabled KaMin to avoid in excess of $1 million in ERP reimplementation, labor and temporary hosting costs over the course of the divestiture.

  • “KaMin could not have achieved this divestiture strategy without Informatica, it’s a simple as that,” said Senad Hadzic, CIO, KaMin, LLC. “Thanks to Informatica, KaMin has become  its own master faster – being in a position to target, acquire and support kaolin customers up to six months more quickly than if we had used an alternative divestiture strategy.”
  • “Divestitures require the careful separation of business transactions from mission-critical applications. These tasks that are complicated by the inherent complexity of the underlying systems and are pressured by tight timelines as well as stringent legal requirements,” said Adam Wilson, general manager, ILM, Informatica. “Divested organizations can leverage Informatica Data Subset backed by Informatica Professional Serveics expertise to quickly untangle their critical data from the parent organization and get operating as a new entity, on a new system, without downtime, reimplementation costs, or business risk.”
