Jewelry Television, a 7x24 hour television and Internet jewelry business, was challenged with managing Informatica upgrades, preventing configuration drift between environments, operating system dependency management and stability, measuring environmental network throughput differences, and reducing production downtimes. By following an agile approach to managing Informatica installations and leveraging a continuous delivery system to produce operating system packages for Informatica products, Jewelry Television has been able to significantly reduce system administration overhead and enjoy several additional benefits. These benefits include significantly reduced upgrade and new environment deployment time as well as elimination of configuration drift and missing dependencies problems. In addition, an open source tool for measuring network throughput for PowerExchange CDC for Oracle was developed to optimize CDC throughput. Using these techniques with Informatica solutions, including PowerCenter and PowerExchange, Jewelry Television has increased environmental stability, consistency, and performance.
