INFORMATICA FILES PATENT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUIT AGAINST ACTA TECHNOLOGY

Company seeks permanent injunction and damages

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 16, 2002 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading provider of business analytics software, today announced that it has filed a patent infringement action in U.S. District Court in Northern California against Acta Technology, Inc., asserting that certain Acta products infringe on three of Informatica's patents. In the suit, Informatica is seeking an injunction against future sales of the infringing Acta products, as well as damages for past sales of the infringing products. Informatica has asserted that Acta's infringement of the Informatica patents was willful and deliberate, entitling Informatica to an award of treble damages, costs and reasonable attorney's fees.

Informatica's suit asserts infringement of the following patents: U.S. Patent No. 6,014,670, entitled “Apparatus and Method for Performing Data Transformations in Data Warehousing”; U.S. Patent No. 6,339,775, entitled “Apparatus and Method for Performing Data Transformations in Data Warehousing” (this patent is a continuation-in-part of and claims the benefit of U.S. Patent No. 6,014,670); and U.S. Patent No. 6,208,990, entitled “Method and Architecture for Automated Optimization of ETL Throughput in Data Warehousing Applications.”

“Informatica has invested significant time, money and resources since the company's inception in 1993, developing innovative solutions used for data integration, data warehouse management and business analytics,” said Gaurav Dhillon, Informatica's chief executive officer. “Our strong focus on and commitment to research and development has netted the company a solid and growing patent portfolio. As with any other valuable asset of the company, Informatica has an obligation to its shareholders to protect the value of its patented intellectual property property to the full extent of the law. We are taking this action only after presenting Acta with an offer earlier this year to license our patented technology.”
