Informatica Adds Unstructured Data Support To Market-Leading PowerCenter Data Integration Platform
Signs worldwide OEM agreement with complex-data transformation leader Itemfield
INFORMATICA WORLD 2005, Washington,
June 6, 2005—In a move that will dramatically expand customers' access to diverse data types across the enterprise, Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA) today announced a comprehensive OEM, technology and marketing partnership with Itemfield, the leader in next-generation data-transformation software. Under this agreement, Informatica will seamlessly embed core Itemfield technology within the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform, thus delivering the first unified platform for processing all forms of unstructured, semi-structured and structured data across the enterprise.
It is estimated that unstructured data - such as email, Word files, spreadsheets, presentations and .PDF documents - accounts for up to 90 percent of the information stored in enterprises today. And semi-structured data, which includes industry-standard formats - such as HL7 and HIPAA in health care, SWIFT in financial services and ACORD in insurance - is also widespread and increasingly relied upon in today's automated business environments.
"In an era of ever-growing regulatory requirements, companies are finding it essential to gain a single view across the full spectrum of data that resides across the enterprise," said Girish Pancha, executive vice president of products at Informatica. "By delivering the industry's broadest array of data integration capabilities from a single platform, we can help our customers to successfully address their complex business challenges at a significant productivity and cost advantage over hand coding."
Just as Informatica PowerCenter automatically transforms and integrates structured data, Itemfield automates the batch or real-time transformation of unstructured and semi-structured data without costly and inflexible custom programming. By embedding Itemfield technology within PowerCenter, Informatica can provide customers with access to nearly all types of enterprise data, combined with the ability to visualize, integrate, and package that information for delivery to enterprise systems, business processes and decision-makers. Informatica will also resell the full-license version of Itemfield's flagship product, ContentMaster, to its clients enabling coverage of structured, unstructured and semi-structured data to extend seamlessly across batch and real-time applications.
"With the majority of the world's enterprise data stored in unstructured form, Itemfield's unique technology enables companies, for the first time, to efficiently tap into the wealth of data that has previously been accessible only through extensive, time-consuming and expensive custom programming," said Dan Carmel, president and CEO of Itemfield. "The integration of Itemfield technology with Informatica's industry-standard platform for data integration will give companies an open, robust and highly scalable infrastructure for accessing the vast majority of corporate data while opening the door to new types of enterprise applications."
The American arm of Natexis Banques Populaires, a leader in the European financial market, has standardized on the Informatica PowerCenter platform for data integration. In order to automate the generation of highly complex and unstructured SWIFT messages which are used in financial-institution transfers, the company is now implementing Itemfield ContentMaster to work in tandem with Informatica PowerCenter.
"We look forward to extending our successful implementation of Informatica PowerCenter to automate the transformation of both structured and unstructured data types, including highly complex SWIFT messages - all within a single environment," said Avram Kornberg, U.S. chief information officer at Natexis. "By combining Itemfield and Informatica platforms, we can leverage our existing Informatica implementation to speed the introduction of new applications at a much lower cost."
Core Itemfield technology will be available from Informatica as a separately priced option in early Q3 2005.
