Informatica PowerExchange is a family of products providing high-performance access to the wide variety of mission-critical data used by organizations today. PowerExchange, in conjunction with the PowerCenter platform, helps organizations unlock mission-critical operational data and deliver it, on demand, to people and processes across the organization. Data can be extracted, converted, and filtered-without programming-and delivered in batch or in real time. Dozens of different data sources and targets are supported, all available without intermediate staging of data, through an easy-to-use vendor-neutral set of metadata-driven tools.

Timely, trusted data
PowerExchange can increase organizational agility and save IT resources with its patented "change data capture" technology. With change data capture (CDC), PowerExchange distills new and updated data from unchanged background data and sends only the changes for further processing. This data can be "pulled" on demand and delivered in batch on any chosen schedule, or "pushed" as a real-time stream of updates to downstream processes waiting for the latest data. Unlike other access products, PowerExchange is tightly integrated with Informatica PowerCenter and Informatica Data Quality; this is critical to maintaining metadata lineage, capable of satisfying even the most stringent data governance policies.

A secure, scalable platform
Some organizations are choosing to integrate and extend their investments by creating web services in a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Others focus on event-driven architectures (EDA), while others find that more traditional data integration techniques still meet their needs. PowerExchange honors the security requirements of all sources, targets, and architectures, and employs industry-standard encryption to maintain security across the chosen architecture. Through the high-performance environment provided by PowerCenter, PowerExchange scales to support all of these, on multiple platforms. PowerExchange provides access to these complex formats without hand-coding or needing to maintain scarce and costly technical skills for each format; accessing a data source is as simple as pointing to it on a menu. As data volumes increase and organizational agility grows in importance, PowerExchange helps the ICC respond to these demands by supporting a seamless transition from bulk access and batch delivery to continuous CDC with data delivery to multiple targets weekly, daily, hourly-or in real-time. PowerExchange significantly reduces the time and resources required to deliver data wherever it's needed, in whatever form it's required, on whatever schedule is desired.

Enterprise Applications PowerExchange provides access to major enterprise and packaged applications, whether the applications are on-premise, outsourced, or hosted Software as a Service (SaaS). Organizations can use PowerExchange to automatically and cost-effectively integrate, migrate, or consolidate applications.

Databases and Data Warehouses Whether capturing database changes in real time, or building data warehouses and data marts from PowerCenter's transformations, PowerExchange provides fast, unified access to all major enterprise database systems and data warehousing environments.

Mainframes The bulk of the business world’s transactions still run on mainframes, but scarce skills and non-standard interfaces can seal off access to this critical data. PowerExchange extends a uniform, simple interface to the mainframe’s relational and pre-relational databases, optionally capturing changes as they occur.
 
Midrange These machines offered ease-of use in exchange for a closed architecture. PowerExchange opens midrange environments at low cost and without the need for extensive, hard-to-find technical skills.

Messaging Systems PowerExchange provides reliable access to the message queuing systems that are the foundation of high-performance, event-driven architectures (EDA). Message queues can be accessed in batch or in real-time, then brought into PowerCenter for transformation and subsequent integration with any of the broad list of sources PowerExchange supports.

Technology Standards PowerExchange can readily access data hidden in hard-to-use standard formats such as web services, email, and LDAP. By bringing it into PowerCenter, this data can be cleansed and integrated with any supported data source.

Complex Data Informatica supports access to unstructured data formats (such as Word and PDF) and industry-standard message formats (such as SWIFT and ACORD) through Complex Data Exchange, which works with PowerExchange and PowerCenter to form a complete data integration environment.
