In the December 2021 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Master Data Management Solutions, “Gartner defines master data management (MDM) as a technology-enabled business discipline in which business and IT work together to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, governance, semantic consistency, and accountability of an enterprise’s official shared master data assets.”

Like all technology-enabled business disciplines, technology capabilities for managing master data are constantly evolving to address changing business needs. Informatica has an exceptional track record of leadership in the MDM market, because our innovation never stops.

We relentlessly monitor the market to understand technology shifts and business needs so we can develop solutions that help organizations better use data to improve business outcomes. Our comprehensive market understanding allowed us to see how the evolution to cloud, AI, graph, and active metadata management would become foundational for modernizing the practice of master data management. And our ability to translate those requirements into products and solutions has resulted once again in Informatica being positioned highest for ability to execute and furthest for completeness of vision.

At Informatica we’re proud of how we’ve modernized our MDM solution, using a cloud-native microservices architecture, user-centric design principles, and AI-powered automation, because it means that Informatica customers reap the benefits.

A modern cloud experience that increases adoption, productivity, and agility. By studying the context in which different people—such as data stewards, application administrators, business analysts, and analytics teams—use master data management solutions, as well as their end-to-end interaction processes, we’ve been able to design intuitive interfaces, guided workflow, and machine learning recommendations that simplify the discovery, curation, and consumption of master data for analytical and operational use.

“Centralizing our master data using Informatica simplifies data stewardship and governance, enables more consistent use of data to drive the business, and makes it easier to calculate important KPIs such as customer lifetime value.” Gary Desai CIO, Discount Tire

An easy-to-manage solution that speeds deployment and reduces cost of ownership. Integrating all the data management capabilities required for the practice of master data management, such as data and process integration, API management, data quality, data modeling, hierarchy and graph relationship management, workflow and task management, and security into a single solution with pre-configured domain and industry content, has enabled us to simplify implementation and administration of multidomain master data management.

“To achieve speed and agility, we needed a cloud master data management solution with integrated data quality and prebuilt data models. Within just a few business days, we had an environment fully stood up and could start development immediately.” Lance Dionne, Data Quality and Master Data Lead at PMI

A comprehensive solution that accelerates business outcomes. Our ability to manage multiple domains of master data and the relationships between domains such customer to product and product to supplier, as well as connecting master data and other types of data like transactions and interactions, enables us to support a broad range of digital transformation uses cases such as customer experience, digital commerce, supply chain optimization, and finance transformation. This ability to scale across functional areas of the business ensures long term value.

“Informatica helped accelerate our digital transformation and made data more central to our CRM and e-commerce activities.” Andrea Furegon Head of Digital Innovation, Coop Alleanza 3.0

According to Gartner®, a Magic Quadrant™ provides a graphical competitive positioning of four types of technology providers, in markets where growth is high and provider differentiation is distinct:

  • Leaders execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow.
  • Visionaries understand where the market is going or have a vision for changing market rules, but do not yet execute well.
  • Niche Players focus successfully on a small segment or are unfocused and do not out-innovate or outperform others.
  • Challengers execute well today or may dominate a large segment, but do not demonstrate an understanding of market direction.

Gartner® also publishes a Critical Capabilities report, which complements the Magic Quadrant™ and uses a highly structured methodology and rigorous analysis to compare vendor functionality across eleven different categories. The functionality scoring is then used to determine a vendor’s ability to support business use cases of master data.

Only Informatica is a Leader in the Magic Quadrant™ and scored highest in ability to support all five use cases defined by Gartner®.

For organizations that are trying to gain a deeper understanding of MDM vendors and evaluate best fit based on product functionality and business usage scenarios, it makes sense to review both the Magic Quadrant™ and Critical Capabilities™ reports together.
