Salesforce Reporting

Salesforce reporting puts a wealth of information at your fingertips, from real-time snapshots of your sales and marketing performance to annual summaries—so it’s no surprise that most Salesforce customers aim to take full advantage of its dashboard capabilities for business intelligence. But can you get a truly clear view of your performance if the data you’re reporting from is dirty, duplicated, or incomplete?

The challenge

A lack of standardization and incomplete data in back-office systems can skew reports when that critical data is brought into Salesforce. The clear, single view you thought you had about your sales, marketing, service, and other activity turns out to be not so clear. Performance reports and dashboards are incorrect. Sales teams suffer from dirty data and misleading forecasts, especially where duplicate accounts or opportunities are involved. Marketing’s job to plan strategic targeted campaigns is made much more difficult when Salesforce reporting data cannot be segmented due to duplicates and inconsistencies.

Overall, inaccurate and incomplete Salesforce reporting and business intelligence compromises trust in the data and makes it difficult for you to make the right tactical and strategic decisions for your business.

The global view

If your business operates globally, Salesforce reporting can become even more of a necessity, especially when tapping into emerging markets or planning how to distribute future resources.

But hierarchical reporting—where there are multiple offices and/or subsidiaries whose reports need to roll up to a single parent account—is often difficult to deliver. Gaining a true, global single view can be nearly impossible with the out-of-the-box hierarchy functionality available in Salesforce, much less in standard Salesforce reporting. Even if you do manage to come up with a few hierarchy reports, it is often difficult to decipher the difference between a duplicate account and a separate office or entity.

By ensuring your data is clean, consistent, and de-duplicated, you will get the most out of your Salesforce reporting and overall CRM and Force.com investment. Add the ability to run hierarchical reports, and you are on your way to turning basic Salesforce reports and dashboards into true business intelligence.
