INFORMATICA SHIPS GLOBALIZED VERSION OF
LEADING DATA INTEGRATION SOFTWARE
Upgrade enables "localized" support for all major languages
Japanese version now available in Japan through Mitsubishi Electric
PALO ALTO, Calif., February 29, 2000 -- Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of integrated analytic solutions for e-business, today announced the general availability of the internationalized versions of Informatica PowerCenterTM, Informatica PowerMart®, Informatica PowerConnectTM for SAPTM R/3® and Informatica PowerConnectTM for PeopleSoft software, the company's market-leading data-integration software products. This new functionality strengthens Informatica's global reach by enabling resellers and distributors around the world to convert Informatica software to any major language for resale in their local markets. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, one of Japan's leading technology companies, helped complete the conversion of Informatica software to support Kanji and has already sold licenses to some of Japan's largest companies.
"The globalization of our products is an important milestone for Informatica as it strengthens our ability to build market share around the globe," said Diaz Nesamoney, president of Informatica. "The upgraded version will enable both large companies based solely overseas as well as U.S. customers with multi-national operations to adopt Informatica software. As our customers expand their e-business operations globally, they can continue to leverage Informatica to maintain a similar competitive advantage on a worldwide scale."
PowerCenter, PowerMart, PowerConnect for SAP R/3 and PowerConnect for PeopleSoft have been enhanced to support the Unicode standard, a universal character-encoding scheme that defines a consistent method for encoding multilingual text.
Unicode enables the exchange of text data internationally and creates the foundation for global software. The recognized standard technology for internationalization worldwide, Unicode currently enables the conversion of all major languages of the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia and the Pacific Basin.
First Localization Effort Completed for Japanese Market
Following a co-development effort with Informatica to localize the company's software for the Japanese market, Mitsubishi Electric is now reselling Informatica's products in Japan as part of a comprehensive, high-performance data-integration solution which includes its own DIAPRISM data warehouse performance-enhancement product. One of the leading technology companies in Japan, Mitsubishi Electric signed a strategic OEM agreement with Informatica last year and serves as the company's primary distributor in the Japanese market.
"Business intelligence represents an important technology market in Japan, one that Mitsubishi Electric is looking to play a central role in developing," said Kazuyuki Katori, general manager, information systems engineering at Mitsubishi Electric. "Our partnership with Informatica plays a critical role in helping us provide Japan's leading companies with a comprehensive, powerful solution for gaining business intelligence."
A combination of hardware and software, DIAPRISM enhances data warehouse performance by addressing performance and scalability problems that can confront data warehouse and business intelligence solutions operating within a Windows NT environment. The pairing of DIAPRISM with Informatica's data-integration platform is designed to greatly speed the delivery of data to companies seeking to build a data warehouse in order to conduct strategic business analysis.
PowerCenter is an enterprise data-integration hub that enables large organizations to easily transform legacy, relational and ERP data into reliable information for strategic business analysis. PowerMart is an integrated tool suite for designing, deploying, managing and maintaining line-of-business data marts and analytic applications. PowerConnect for SAP R/3 and PowerConnect for PeopleSoft enable companies to directly extract and integrate vast amounts of corporate data stored in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in order to leverage it for enterprise decision support.
