PACIFICORP MAXIMIZES PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFITABILITY WITH ERP ANALYTIC SOLUTION FROM INFORMATICA

Electric utility company successfully leverages wealth of SAP R/3 data for strategic analysis across the company

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 3, 2000 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), one of the leading providers of integrated analytic solutions for e-business, today announced the successful implementation of its PowerConnect™ for SAP™ R/3® and PowerCenter™ software at PacifiCorp. PacifiCorp is one of the United States' lowest-cost electricity producers with 1.4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers.

After PacifiCorp converted its legacy operational systems to an SAP R/3 enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment last year, executives found it difficult to access critical business information from across the company which they relied on to analyze costs surrounding inventories, employees, customers and materials management. ERP systems, which are designed to help companies operate more efficiently, contain a wealth of operational data that can be difficult to access for strategic analysis.

"Our managers were used to having reports at their fingertips telling them how much staff they had, how much money they were spending, how much inventory they maintained, and so forth," said Fort Holcombe, data warehouse manager at PacifiCorp. "After implementing SAP R/3, the ability to quickly and easily tap into key information regarding how the company was being run suddenly became more challenging."

In order to generate business intelligence from their new R/3 system, PacifiCorp chose Informatica's PowerConnect for SAP R/3 and PowerCenter software to access key HR, work management, inventory and financial data from their R/3 system, and integrate it with information from their in-house customer service system.

Some of the key benefits PacifiCorp has realized from its Informatica-based analytic system include:

  • Greater ability to stay within budget due to management's ability to perform drill-down analyses of enterprise-wide financial data.
  • Faster response to current operational conditions due to the rapid delivery of critical business information to key decision-makers.
  • Decreased IT resources by eliminating the need for time-consuming and costly ABAP coding and SQL script writing.

"Maintaining efficient internal processes is a key to maximizing PacifiCorp's productivity and profitability," said Holcombe. "Informatica plays a critical role in helping us achieve this, allowing us to integrate hard-to-access ERP data with other key enterprise information in order to evaluate performance and make decisions based on complete and timely information."

Informatica's PowerCenter is an enterprise data-integration hub that enables large organizations to easily transform legacy, relational and ERP data into reliable information for strategic business analysis. PowerConnect for SAP R/3 software helps companies directly access and integrate the vast amounts of corporate data stored in their ERP systems for business intelligence.

PacifiCorp is part of the ScottishPower group, and provides energy to 1.4 million customers in the western United States. With 8,000 employees in the United States, PacifiCorp operates as Pacific Power in California, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming, and as Utah Power in Idaho and Utah. The ScottishPower group also serves 5.5 million customers in the United Kingdom and 547,000 customers in Australia.
