INFORMATICA’S INNOVATIVE ANALYTIC SOFTWARE AWARDED THREE NEW TECHNOLOGY PATENTS IN 2000
Patented data-integration technology chosen by more than half of today's Fortune 100
PALO ALTO, Calif., November 1, 2000 - Crowning years of innovation in data integration technology, Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced it received three additional technology patents for core technology within its market-leading data integration software. These patented technologies continue to demonstrate the strength of Informatica’s ongoing research and development of leading-edge analytic solutions for its customers and OEM partners.
“We are continuing to invent new technology solutions that can help our customers improve the performance of their businesses,” said Diaz Nesamoney, president and COO of Informatica. “Our steadfast commitment to research and development and a continuing drive to solve our customers’ business challenges has helped Informatica’s data-integration software to become the industry's standard. These patents will help ensure the unique technology at the core of Informatica’s product line, now in use by more than 1,000 global companies and bundled by more than thirty OEM partners, cannot be matched.”
The patented technologies include:
- Method for performing data transformations (No. 6,014,670)
In response to a strong need in the data warehousing industry for a formal mechanism to effectively exchange metadata and concisely describe the various characteristics comprising today’s complex data-transformation networks, Informatica conceived and created its own Transformation Definition Language (TDL). Used for specifying how data is to be manipulated in a data warehouse application, Informatica’s patented method for transforming and synthesizing raw data from systems across the enterprise into valuable business information is an important component of the company’s data integration products.
- “Hub and spoke” method for sharing metadata (No. 6,044,374)
This critical technology enables the sharing of metadata through a “hub and spoke” enterprise system, where common data resides in a central location (hub) and is then accessible to different applications (spokes). Informatica's unique solution provides the ability to share metadata across multiple applications so that duplication is minimized and changes are captured and propagated efficiently, seamlessly and transparently to users.
- System for efficiently updating warehouse data (No. 6,032,158)
In order to capture the most recent data from applications across the enterprise into a data warehouse for analysis, companies were previously forced to reprocess and transform entire data sets, even though only a small portion of the data had actually changed. Informatica’s patented “Change Data Capture” process helps eliminate this time-consuming and inefficient system by offering a solution whereby only the changes made to the operational database are captured and propagated to the data warehouse.
The addition of three patents this year brings Informatica’s total to four. Awarded in 1998, the company’s previous patent (No. 5,794,246) defines a method for incremental aggregation of dynamically increasing data base sets.
