INFORMATICA JOINS OBJECT MANAGEMENT GROUP

Offers extensive metadata expertise to industry consortium defining the emerging standard for metadata exchange

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 8, 2000 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced its official membership in the Object Management Group (OMG), a non-profit group driving standards for the software industry. Informatica has joined OMG to further the group's efforts to develop a universal metadata standard for data warehousing. Metadata is information used to describe the context and structure of data and information processes.

"Informatica was the first to address the need for metadata-exchange standards, predating industry efforts to establish a specification with our own Metadata Exchange (MX) initiative," said Diaz Nesamoney, president and COO of Informatica. "As an industry leader in the analytic space, Informatica is committed to supporting the OMG solution as it continues to evolve."

Through its work with the OMG, Informatica will extend its leadership in metadata management by working alongside members such as Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Oracle in developing the next version of the organization's Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM). The CWM standard will allow for the interoperability of enterprise applications, the underlying premise for Informatica's platform design, which will help Informatica customers exchange metadata between different vendors' products more easily.

"The value of OMG is measured by the quality of its membership," stated Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of the Object Management Group. "Informatica's involvement in the OMG will provide the Group with a wealth of expertise in metadata management and contribute greatly to its success."

The Object Management Group was founded in April 1989 by eleven companies, including 3Com Corporation, American Airlines, Canon, Inc., Data General, Hewlett-Packard, Philips Telecommunications N.V., Sun Microsystems and Unisys Corporation. The organization was formed to create a component-based software marketplace by hastening the introduction of standardized object software. Its charter includes the establishment of industry guidelines and detailed object management specifications to provide a common framework for application development. Through the OMG's commitment to developing commercially viable and vendor-neutral specifications for the software industry, the consortium now includes about 800 members.
