PALO ALTO, Calif., November 15, 2000 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA) today announced plans to jointly develop a powerful set of analytic solutions for customers of Ariba's online marketplace applications, Ariba Marketplace(tm) and Ariba Dynamic Trade(tm). The packaged applications will help market makers improve the effectiveness of their online marketplaces and provide value-added e-business insight to participating buyers and suppliers. With these new analytic offerings, Informatica continues to build on the success achieved earlier this year with the launch of an analytic solution for Ariba Buyer(tm), Ariba's leading online procurement application.
Web-based electronic marketplaces align buyers, suppliers and commerce-service providers into seamless trading communities, removing costly inefficiencies and delivering bottom-line savings to all participants. According to Forrester Research, 53 percent of worldwide business-to-business e-commerce will be conducted through online marketplaces by 2004.
Marketplace analytics can serve this growing e-marketplace community by enabling the collection and analysis of customer, supplier, transactional and other broad industry metrics. Moreover, industry experts agree that business intelligence will also become a critical revenue component of tomorrow's marketplaces.
"Given such explosive growth in this industry, marketplace participants are beginning to turn to business analytics to fine-tune their relationships and supply chains to maximize the value of each and every transaction," said Dan Fishback, vice president of global channels at Ariba. "Paired with Ariba Marketplace and Ariba Dynamic Trade applications, Informatica's analytic capabilities can help market makers leverage the power of business intelligence to compete and thrive."
Informatica's new marketplace analytic applications will deliver key metrics to Ariba Marketplace operators and Ariba Dynamic Trade users, helping them improve their marketplace offerings and further differentiate themselves by delivering value-added insight to participating buyers and suppliers. Dynamic trade users will also gain insight to help improve the efficiency of future trading events. The new marketplace applications will be an integrated addition to the Informatica Applications product family.
"We're pleased to continue our successful relationship with Ariba to extend the power of business insight to an even broader segment of their customer base," said Marv Mouchawar, senior vice president and general manager for Informatica's Applications Business Unit. "In the increasingly competitive realm of B2B e-commerce, analytics can provide a powerful competitive advantage, helping marketplace operators effectively compete and win in the new economy."
Ariba Marketplace is the industry's leading solution for enabling the rapid deployment of a variety of B2B marketplaces, including procurement marketplaces, industry marketplaces and commodity exchanges. Ariba Dynamic Trade is Ariba's application for enabling dynamic trade mechanisms such as auctions, reverse auctions, bid/ask exchanges and negotiations.
Informatica's analytic applications for Ariba Marketplace and Ariba Dynamic Trade are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2001.
