INFORMATICA DEMONSTRATES MASSIVE SCALABILITY, POWERFUL PERFORMANCE OF ITS DATA INTEGRATION PLATFORM ON HP SERVERS

Benchmark tests show Informatica PowerCenter 5’s ability to manage enormous data volumes to achieve rapid time-to-implementation, time-to-insight

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 2, 2001 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced it has conclusively demonstrated the top-flight performance of the recently released Informatica PowerCenter 5 data integration and analytics platform running on Hewlett-Packard Company’s HP 9000 Superdome enterprise server.  The results, which were based on a third-party decision-support benchmark, prove that the Informatica PowerCenter 5 platform running on the HP Superdome server enables customers to implement high-performance, easy-to-maintain analytic solutions that provide business insight in a very short timeframe.

Based on real-world scenarios, the benchmarks showed massive scalability of the Informatica solution on HP servers.  For example, three complex data mappings representing typical business scenarios executed in parallel against more than 875 million database rows took just over 29 minutes to complete.

“One of the salient points of the benchmark is that we were able to implement a representative analytic solution in a matter of days, with no laborious special coding,” said Girish Pancha, senior vice president and general manager, platform technologies at Informatica. “Sample mappings involved real-world business scenarios as we searched for business insight in datasets of various sizes.  Taking advantage of the parallelism within Informatica PowerCenter 5, performance results were exemplary across the board, with the performance of both the Informatica platform and the HP Superdome server actually outstripping the physical limitations of the test-bed’s fiber channel connectors.”

“This benchmark test clearly illustrated that the latest version of the Informatica platform is an excellent match for the HP Superdome server within analytic environments characterized by terabytes of data,” said Mark Hudson, worldwide marketing manager for HP’s Business Systems and Technology Organization. “This pairing delivered not only superb performance and incredible linear scalability, but also reinforced the powerful time-to-market, ease-of-use and ease-of-maintenance benefits that PowerCenter 5 and HP Superdome customers can achieve.”

Benchmark Test Results

Standard test mappings were launched against the test system, an HP 9000 Superdome server configured with 64 PA-8600 processors and an out-of-the-box implementation of the Informatica PowerCenter 5 platform.

Tests included running mappings in parallel against sets of data that ranged from 1GB to 100GB, using 16, 32 and the full 64 processors.  The results demonstrated linear scalability in throughput as the number of processors was increased.  As data volumes were increased, the processing time was kept almost constant by increasing the number of processors.

Data was hosted on Oracle8i Enterprise Edition database software with the data stored on disk arrays connected to the server via fiber channel connectors.  Data was partitioned at the table level and session load level.
