INFORMATICA LAUNCHES NEW VERSION OF ANALYTIC APPLICATIONS TO DRIVE BROAD DEPLOYMENT OF PACKAGED ENTERPRISE ANALYTICS

Includes mobile delivery of metrics; analytic dashboards with pre-defined analytic workflows; and expanded analytics across the value chain

SAN FRANCISCO, Informatica World, October 22, 2001-Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading provider of enterprise analytic software, today announced a new version of Informatica Applications 5 with unique personalization and delivery features that make possible the development and broad deployment of real-time analytics across an enterprise value chain.

Unveiled at the company's annual user conference, Informatica Applications 5 is the only single-vendor solution available today that helps enable Global 2000 organizations to deliver consistent, action-enabling business metrics in a personalized format to Web and mobile devices such as PDAs, WAP phones, text pagers and RIM pagers.

The Informatica analytic software stack integrates, analyzes, personalizes and delivers critical analytic metrics from disparate data sources across an enterprise value chain and delivers analytic dashboards that executives, managers, and office workers can use for fact-based decision-making.

“The most valuable business asset flows through an enterprise every day,” said Sanjay Poonen, general manager and vice president of Informatica Applications. “Companies in today's economy need to capture this business-critical information and make it visible across the entire value chain. Gone are the days when executives and managers make decisions in isolated functional silos. Effective management mandates a consolidated and consistent view of the cross value chain metrics that chart the pulse of their business every moment of every day. That's where our new version of Informatica Applications 5 becomes a must-have.”

Built for Broad-scale Deployment

Developed on the Informatica PowerCenter enterprise data integration platform and the new J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition)-based analytics delivery platform introduced today by Informatica, the enterprise analytics suite offers new personalization and delivery features that enable broad-scale, enterprise-wide deployment. The high performance and flexibility of the J2EE platform, coupled with a pure Internet-based architecture, may provide customers with a lower cost of ownership, rapid implementation and fast return on investment.

Analytic dashboards, which are customized with metrics that measure and optimize the condition of a business in real time, are designed for ease of use and intuitive navigation from anywhere at anytime. The analytic dashboards can be customized to a specific job function with on-screen charts, graphs, dials, gauges and reports, as well as shortcuts to commonly used documents, to put critical business information at the user's fingertips. Interactive alerts can be used to let managers know in real time when specific metrics exceed pre-set business limits. Users can personalize existing business metrics or create their own without requiring expensive technical support staff to make programming changes.

One key feature that enhances the analytic discovery process is a patent-pending innovation called Informatica Analytic Workflows. Pre-defined or user-defined, an analytic workflow simplifies interaction and navigation by quickly guiding users through saved paths to specific reports and information sources to find root causes. Previously, users were challenged in finding root causes with traditional business intelligence query tools. Business metrics and analytic workflows can be published and emailed to other business users to foster collaboration inside and outside the enterprise.

New Packaging Reflects Complete Solution

“Yesterday's analytic solutions were complex, cumbersome and not integrated,” said Jim Cates, CIO, Brocade. “Using Informatica enterprise analytics, we can quickly link our management processes with our core business metrics. The result is superior visibility and improved decision-making at all levels.”

Informatica Applications 5 is the first complete enterprise analytics solution in the industry. The analytic application suite consists of four individual products that can be purchased and used together as a critical enterprise analytic solution or as standalone applications:

  • Informatica Customer Relationship Analytics-helps increase customer and product profitability through better understanding of customer behavior and the effectiveness of customer-facing business processes
  • Informatica Web Channel Analytics-helps improve web effectiveness by integrating online and offline data, performing visitor analysis and segmentation, and providing analysis of marketing and promotion campaigns
  • Informatica Business Operations Analytics-helps leverage financial and human resources analysis to move from tactical to strategic behavior
  • Informatica Supply Chain Analytics-helps streamline supplier management, optimizes inventory management and improves effectiveness of supply chain business processes

New Analytic Functionality

“Most enterprise applications are either focused on a single domain or provide enterprise-wide transactions without enterprise-wide analytics,” said Joshua Greenbaum, principal, Enterprise Applications Consulting, Daly City, CA. “Informatica is able to drill down on three specific domains?customers, suppliers, and operations?and use them as the basis for enterprise-wide analytics. It's an important difference that yields significant competitive advantage.”

Informatica Applications 5 delivers expanded analytic support across the enterprise value chain. Most notably, the cross value chain application suite now features data models that support both service-based and product-based businesses. The pre-packaged analytics suite includes hundreds of metrics that reflect industry best practices and the collective domain knowledge of Informatica and its partners, including PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The new features and functionality of Informatica Customer Relationship Analytics software include embedded data mining for non-expert users, a data-mining workbench for building custom models, and an open API for using third-party data mining tools and models. Using this new capability, users can not only answer “what happened” but also can predict “what will happen.”

Closing the loop with transactional applications lets an optimal business decision drive further effectiveness into the transactional business process. Informatica Customer Relationship Analytics now features integration with closed-loop campaign management, with the ability to segment and extract lists for campaigns. With this new ability to analyze customer purchase behavior, campaign results can be used to drive cross-sell and up-sell campaigns that increase revenue and grow share-of-wallet.

Both the new Supply Chain Analytics and Business Operations Analytics applications feature hundreds of domain-specific metrics and reports. New supply chain analytics functionality includes modules on spend analysis, inventory and supplier analysis - together with metrics on requisitions, purchase cycle times and supplier scorecards - and analytic workflows that help companies analyze procurement, spend and inventory activity.

New business operations functionality includes modules on profitability, revenue, AP, AR, GL analysis, employee events, employee payroll and other HR analytics - together with metrics such as revenue per employee, return on assets, return on equity among others - and analytic workflows that help companies analyze cash flow, balance sheet, employee turnover and others business processes.

Also included in this release are upgraded Business Adapters for Oracle 11 - in addition to the existing adapters for SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft and other sources.

Availability and Pricing

Informatica Applications 5 is available worldwide beginning in November 2001. It is compatible with Oracle, SQL Server, IBM databases; NT and UNIX (Solaris, HP-UX, AIX) operating systems; and Actuate, Brio, Business Objects, Cognos and MicroStrategy business intelligence tools for ad hoc querying.
