INFORMATICA LAUNCHES INDUSTRY'S FIRST INTEGRATED ENTERPRISE ANALYTICS SOFTWARE
Single-vendor solution combines analytic dashboards via Web, wireless and voice interfaces with world-standard data integration, packaged analytics and J2EE Internet architecture to streamline metrics-driven management.
SAN FRANCISCO, Informatica World 2001, October 22, 2001-Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading provider of enterprise analytics software, today launched an integrated enterprise analytics solution designed to help companies better analyze, measure and improve their operational effectiveness through metrics-driven management.
The Informatica enterprise analytics solution unveiled today is a fully integrated, single-vendor analytic suite. It is based on an open, Internet-centric J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) infrastructure and built on world-standard Informatica data integration technology. This suite combines a new analytics delivery platform, which features Web, wireless and voice interfaces to key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics via analytic dashboards, with a powerful new version of packaged Informatica analytic content.
"Today is the culmination of a product vision that we outlined last year-to provide companies with a single, unified analytic infrastructure that enables decision makers to transform business insight into true competitive advantage," said Gaurav Dhillon, CEO, Informatica, at the Informatica World 2001 user conference. "In most companies, the KPIs, metrics and reports required to effectively and collaboratively manage a business are not readily available to decision makers. Our product suite combines the best of data integration, analytic applications and usability to deliver key analytics to any manager, any time, anywhere."
Single-vendor Analytic Solution
An advancement in the area of enterprise analytics, the complete Informatica "stack" of data integration, analytics and delivery software allows for broad-scale, enterprise-wide deployment to all levels of users; automated decision making through analytic workflows (patent pending) and real-time alerts; easy-to-use, intuitive navigation, and Web, wireless and voice interfaces to KPIs, metrics and analytic dashboards enabling secure collaboration both inside and outside the firewall.
"The Informatica Analytics Delivery Platform is a major step in the direction of process-rich, widely deployed analytic applications," said Henry Morris, Vice president, Applications and Information Access, IDC. "Informatica's innovation is twofold. First, the applications can incorporate end user-defined "analytic workflows" -- a unique and powerful way to implement process support. Second, the resulting applications can be deployed in an office or mobile environment, in the context of a knowledge worker's business activities wherever they are performed."
Metrics-Driven Management Demands Enterprise Analytics
"Companies have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in transactional systems-enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain management and home-grown systems-to improve their business efficiency by automating processes and tasks," Dhillon said. "But these transactional applications have only had limited impact on business effectiveness, because they have not touched the real decision makers throughout an organization.
"Today's corporate environment demands more," he continued. "It demands a continuous cycle of analysis, insight, action and measurement. It needs to eliminate guesswork and provide decision makers at all levels with a consistent, comprehensive set of KPIs, metrics and reports that detail, as succinctly as possible, the past, present and future status of key business processes. It demands the kind of business performance that is driven by fact-based, real-time decisions, broader accountability and more effective collaboration inside and outside the company."
Operational excellence demands insight that expands its view to encompass all key businesses processes. Yesterday's solutions were piecemeal, Dhillon said, comprised of business intelligence and data mining tools that were usable only by highly trained business analysts for custom reports-meaning that business insight was often "too little, too late" to impact performance. What's needed today, he said, is an Internet-architecture solution that leverages corporate information from a wide variety of internal and external sources for highly collaborative, real-time decision-making that can be easily shared throughout the extended enterprise.
"We are excited by the potential we see in the Informatica Analytics Delivery Platform for deploying analytics to a much broader audience across our extended enterprise," said Don Stoller, director, Owens & Minor. "By pushing fact-based decision making to more individuals within and outside of the organization, Informatica's new delivery platform can provide a valuable means for realizing analytics return on investment on an even larger scale."
The Informatica enterprise analytics solution can be shown to provide significant business value, according to Dhillon. A recent joint ROI evaluation conducted by Informatica in partnership with Booz Allen & Hamilton, the leading management-consulting firm, for a multibillion-dollar electronics equipment manufacturer conservatively estimated the potential for $150M in cumulative cost reductions and process improvements over a five-year period.
In addition to quantifiable productivity and direct business return on investment, the study revealed a large and favorable impact on the secondary metrics that lead to quantifiable ROI-product and service-based metrics such as improvement in customer satisfaction levels, faster time-to-market for new products and services, improvements in competitively valuable benefits such as better and faster decision making, enhanced sales effectiveness, and the flexibility to respond to rapidly changing market conditions.
Informatica Answers the Need for Enterprise Analytics
"Dannon has successfully leveraged Informatica data integration software to more quickly provide users across the enterprise with critical information they need to make better-informed business decisions," said Greg Northrup, IS senior manager, Dannon. "With its new analytic delivery platform, Informatica can now take business responsiveness to the next level by enabling information consumers to access real-time, personalized analytics in more of a 'self service' model."
Enterprise Analytics from Informatica are designed to meet four key analytic requirements: integration, analysis, personalization, and delivery of business-critical information.
- Integration: The enterprise analytics solution stack is built on the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform. Data is sourced from inside and outside the enterprise, allowing users to combine historic and transaction data and results virtually as the data arrives-when the organization requires it.
- Analysis: Informatica Applications is the only packaged analytic application suite that provides the strategic advantage of a 360-view across the entire enterprise from customers through suppliers. Rich in business domain knowledge, the applications are designed to improve the quality of decisions by providing a way to understand and manage links that are often too complex for even experienced managers to fully grasp without help.
- Personalization: Informatica data integration and analytic applications were designed with users in mind. Analytic dashboards deliver KPIs, business metrics, reports and intelligent alerts to corporate information consumers in real time. Role-based and customizable, the analytic dashboards give information consumers an easy-to-understand personal view of critical corporate data.
- Delivery: Informatica now delivers broad-scale deployment at the point of work for Web, wireless and voice recognition interfaces. Designed around an open, scalable, Internet-centric architecture based on J2EE, the Informatica Analytic Server is a fully integrated platform that can support deployment to tens of thousands of users and supports collaboration through an enterprise value chain.
