REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 24, 2002 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), the leading provider of business analytics software, today introduced the Informatica Solution for Healthcare, a solution that leverages the industry-standard data integration platform to help healthcare organizations comply with the mandatory Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. The Informatica Solution for Healthcare - which incorporates real-time data integration, pre-built transformations to validate and implement HIPAA transaction sets, and a real-time analytics delivery platform - will help healthcare organizations such as hospitals, HMOs, physician's networks and insurance providers gain HIPAA compliance while also creating a foundation for enterprise-wide business analytics.
“A complete HIPAA solution requires a System of Record for both transaction support and audit reporting. With Informatica's ability to integrate data from HIPAA transactions as well as our core systems, the Informatica Solution for Healthcare was the best choice for us,” said Dave Bowen, CIO of Blue Shield California. “This powerful solution will help us fulfill our HIPAA-compliancy requirements, as well as drive company-wide analytics initiatives that can help improve service and lower costs for our customers.”
HIPAA is a federal mandate requiring all healthcare organizations that maintain or transmit electronic health information to follow certain standards and requirements to ensure the consistency and privacy of patients' medical records by October, 2003. Its primary goal is to provide better access to health insurance, limit fraud and abuse, and reduce administrative costs.
“Western Health has successfully used the Informatica data integration platform since 1998 to help analyze HMO, government and regulatory compliance, and conduct medical quality reviews and HEDIS deliverables. We chose to further leverage our investment with Informatica to help achieve compliance with the new federally mandated HIPAA regulations,” said Cynthia Ficker, IT manager at Western Health Advantage. “Using the Informatica Solution for Healthcare, we can minimize our time to HIPAA compliancy, and start receiving and processing electronic data from our provider organizations as soon as possible. This will enhance our service capabilities to our provider partners and our abilities to properly report to required governmental agencies.”
The Informatica Solution for Healthcare offers healthcare providers and payers an out-of-the-box solution that can fulfill their HIPAA-compliancy needs while providing a strong foundation to achieve strategic business objectives. The solution is comprised of:
- Informatica PowerCenterRT. Core to the new solution is PowerCenterRT, the industry's first enterprise data integration software platform that enables companies to combine real-time data generated by transactional systems and messaging infrastructure with historical 'time-slice' information stored in enterprise data warehouses. (Informatica PowerCenter 6 may be used if customers require scheduled, rather than real-time, data integration.) Additionally, Informatica PowerCenterRT's Distributed Option can be employed to conduct high-performance, secure and cost-effective data exchange via the Internet or existing EDI infrastructure. This extension provides a high-performance channel that transports sensitive, large volumes of data with strong encryption, high compression and guaranteed message delivery.
- Informatica Analytics Server. Informatica Analytics Server is a fully integrated platform that supports broad-scale deployment of analytics within an organization. Using the Web, it delivers dashboards, reports, alerts and metrics that are personalized for each user. These dashboards and reports provide easy and real-time access to quality-of-service metrics such as billing/payment days, as well as metrics with profitability impact, such as types of claims by provider and premium-to-claim analysis.
- HIPAA Business Components. Informatica has created HIPAA-specific reusable transformation objects for reading, validating, transforming and writing to all HIPAA documents. With HIPAA Business Components, Informatica PowerCenterRT combines a broad range of data integration functionality with healthcare-specific business logic and validation rules to manage the complex transformations required to meet HIPAA document specifications.
“The Informatica Solution for Healthcare is a compelling, integrated solution that covers a range of functionality from transformations to analytics,” said Sandra Rogers, program manager, Application Development & Deployment, IDC. “While Informatica is already used by healthcare organizations to integrate data, the addition of pre-built, reusable business logic designed to transform proprietary EDI data into standard HIPAA documents will greatly ease the pains faced by payers and providers on the challenging road to compliance. Going beyond existing HIPAA transaction-support software, however, healthcare organizations can also use Informatica to gain an analytic infrastructure that will continue to be used even when the HIPAA initiative is complete.”
“While we recognize that many organizations are well on their way to developing their own HIPAA-compliancy solutions, we definitely see the need for a cost-effective, pre-engineered solution for certain segments of the market,” says Brad Culp, senior vice president at Fujitsu Consulting. “The collaboration between Informatica and Fujitsu provides an affordable, immediate and specific solution for those organizations who find themselves pressed for time and resources to meet the government's October, 2003 deadline.” (See today's accompanying release from Fujitsu.)
