BB&T BANKS ON INFORMATICA DATA INTEGRATION PLATFORM FOR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Leading financial company implements Informatica PowerCenter as its enterprise data integration platform standard
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 28, 2003 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration and business intelligence software, today announced that BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT), one of highest-performing bank holding companies in the U.S., has successfully implemented the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform. With PowerCenter, BB&T is able to integrate a wide range of disparate systems, reduce infrastructure costs, gain operational efficiencies, and better position the company to more flexibly respond to changing business and regulatory requirements.
“BB&T continues to differentiate itself from other financial services institutions through the execution of superior customer service and technical innovation,” said Benjamin Jackson, senior vice president and manager of data services. “PowerCenter is instrumental in helping us maintain a center of expertise that provides high-quality, timely and cost-effective service for the delivery and integration of data throughout our enterprise.”
Added Jackson, “BB&T recognizes data as a powerful competitive asset for a financial services institution. The implementation of PowerCenter demonstrates BB&T's commitment to internally delivering the right information at the right time to maintain this competitive advantage.”
Since 1989, BB&T has acquired 55 community banks and thrifts, more than 70 insurance agencies and 21 financial services companies. A pending acquisition of First Virginia Banks Inc. will make BB&T the nation's eleventh-largest financial institution.
“Robust data integration is essential to the success of many of today's significant business initiatives, including merger and acquisition activities, which can fail to deliver their full benefits to businesses and their customers due to poor information system consolidation,” said Sanjay Poonen, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Informatica. “BB&T understands the complex integration challenges facing highly competitive financial services companies today, and is now better equipped to dynamically address evolving customer demand.”
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based BB&T Corporation, with $80.2 billion in assets as of Dec. 31, 2002, operates more than 1,100 banking offices in the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, Alabama and Washington, D.C. It is the 13th largest financial holding company in the nation.
