COPIC UNLOCKS LEGACY INFORMATION WITH INFORMATICA DATA INTEGRATION PLATFORM

Colorado's leading medical-liability insurer improved performance using PowerCenter to migrate legacy mainframe to client/server platform

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 30, 2003 - Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration and business intelligence software, today announced that COPIC Insurance, Colorado's leading provider of medical professional-liability insurance, leveraged Informatica PowerCenter to migrate data from a 15-year-old mainframe system to a client/server platform in record time. By migrating away from its legacy mainframe system, COPIC Insurance has been able to significantly reduce hardware, maintenance, software and storage costs, while also improving its ability to rapidly respond to regulatory changes and support new business processes.

“Informatica more than lived up to its reputation as the leader in data integration during our complex mainframe-conversion initiative,” said Bill Donohue, vice president of IT at COPIC Insurance. “We found PowerCenter ideally suited to handle our strategic initiative because of its data-quality features, ease of use and robust metadata architecture - which all helped us to complete our project 12 months faster than most companies. The Informatica data integration platform is now a critical part of COPIC's IT infrastructure, enabling us to better respond to business and regulatory requirements through an enterprise-standard solution for data migration, legacy conversion and data warehousing.”

The Informatica data integration platform enabled COPIC to migrate claims, policy and risk-management information from its mainframe system to an Oracle-based platform. As a result of this large-scale conversion project, the company can now more quickly respond to competitive pressures, and significantly reduce the costs and labor associated with state regulatory compliance audits.

“A recent survey by CIO Insight indicated that 40 percent of CIOs expect to migrate legacy systems in the next 12 months - demonstrating the strategic importance of mainframe conversion projects. Without the right approach, these projects can often be costly, time consuming and fraught with unforeseen complications from custom coding,” said Sanjay Poonen, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Informatica. “Increasingly, customers like COPIC are turning to Informatica to address such mission-critical enterprise data integration challenges and improve business agility, reduce costs and accelerate implementation times.”

Informatica PowerCenter is the industry-leading data integration platform for building, deploying and managing enterprise data warehouses, as well as other data integration projects. Informatica PowerCenter helps enable users to easily transform data from disparate enterprise systems and sources into reliable information to support strategic business initiatives.
