Schering-Plough’s Verisource™ Leverages Informatica Data Integration To Revolutionize Livestock Management

REDWOOD CITY, Calif, May 24, 2004—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that Global Animal Management Inc., a subsidiary of Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE: SPG), is successfully powering its industry-leading animal lifecycle management solution, VeriSource™, using Informatica’s enterprise data integration software.

Global Animal Management uses Informatica’s software to rapidly integrate large amounts of disparate data from cattle, swine, dairy, poultry, sheep, goat and cervidae producers, processors and researchers as part of its full lifecycle management solution. Effective animal management requires the integration and analysis of a broad spectrum of data, including government or industry-based compliance information, as well as value-added industry data used for making important day-to-day operating decisions.

“Informatica helps us address the decision-making and compliance requirements of an entire industry,” said James F. Heinle, president, Global Animal Management, Inc. “In particular, many in the livestock industry today are asking ‘how should a national animal identification database be designed and operated?’. Rapidly transforming and integrating immense volumes of data is a pivotal component of a successful database engine. By utilizing Informatica’s data integration software, we are meeting our goal of revolutionizing information management for the global livestock industry.”

Aimed at the millions of cattle, swine, cervidae, poultry, dairy, sheep and goat operations and meat processors/packers in the U.S., Global Animal Management offers VeriSource as a complete tool set for livestock producers to easily collect, transport, store and process records to satisfy upcoming compliance initiatives for the livestock industry such as the National Animal Identification Plan. Global Animal Management, through a combination of in-house development and adoption of industry-leading software from Informatica, is providing the livestock and poultry industries with a Web-based data-storage and reporting environment at an economic level that would be unachievable for many individual operations.

VeriSource uses Informatica to collect and integrate information on animals across multiple businesses along the production chain so that companies have the ability to participate affordably in industry value-added programs. This solution is available immediately to satisfy emerging industry needs for animal tracing, tracking and disease management.

“We’re pleased to help expedite the deployment of such an important solution, both for individual businesses and the livestock industry as a whole,” said Paul Albright, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Informatica. “As information consolidation and sharing is fast becoming a necessity in multiple industries and across government agencies, Global Animal Management and Informatica are proving that it can be done affordably and quickly across all kinds of boundaries.”

Schering-Plough Animal Health Corporation is the global animal health business of Schering-Plough Corporation of Kenilworth, N.J., a research-based company engaged in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical products worldwide.
