DePaul University Maintains Academic Excellence With Informatica Data Integration

Informatica PowerCenter and PowerAnalyzer software support student-retention efforts and help optimize teaching resources

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., November 9, 2004—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that DePaul University has successfully implemented the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform with PowerAnalyzer dashboarding and reporting software. The private teaching university is using Informatica software to help attract and retain top-tier students, reduce the costs associated with teaching classes, optimize teaching resources to match course loads, and continuously improve student satisfaction.

"Our students were recently voted 'Happiest in the Nation' due to the university's small class size, award-winning academic programs and high quality of instruction. We've been able to use Informatica's leading data integration and visibility solutions to even further enhance our high standard of excellence," said Russ Patterson, senior data warehouse analyst at DePaul University. "Informatica has helped us uncover valuable information about our students -- including academic goals and potential impediments to re-registration -- and learn how best to keep the degree-seekers we work so hard to recruit."

Informatica software is helping university administrators retain enrolled students by identifying those who are eligible to re-register and uncovering why they have not. The school also intends to identify at-risk students through analysis of past grades. In the human resources arena, DePaul is using Informatica to integrate data from its PeopleSoft system in order to better understand teaching costs by degree program and college, identify course demands so it can act proactively in scheduling classes, and trend popular degrees in order to ramp up relevant instructional resources.

"Students are a university's customers. And as such, the most profitable scenario for any business is to retain customers by anticipating their particular needs," said John Entenmann, executive vice president of corporate strategy and marketing at Informatica. "DePaul was looking to establish a single view of student information to help administrators rapidly discover actionable insights. We're pleased to have provided these capabilities in an easily implemented fashion to support DePaul's continued focus on its students."

DePaul University, founded by the Vincentians in 1898, is the largest Catholic university in the nation and the largest private institution in Chicago. DePaul serves over 23,000 students who reflect a broad diversity of ethnic, religious, geographic and economic backgrounds.
