ELCA Board Of Pensions Drives Cost Reductions And Increased Member Benefits With Informatica
Large nonprofit organization uses PowerCenter for cross-enterprise data integration to support collaboration requirements of its business process outsourcing vendors
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.,
November 15, 2004—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that the Board of Pensions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has successfully implemented the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform to support the business process outsourcing of claims administration and pension record keeping. By using PowerCenter to drive the efficiency of its outsourcing procedures, the organization is better controlling operating costs and optimizing benefit plans for its 50,000 plan members.
"Informatica is helping to keep us focused on improving our retirement, health and other benefit services and building strong member relationships by supporting the outsourcing of administrative tasks with seamless data integration capabilities," said Barb Brekke, database administrator and data resource specialist at the ELCA Board of Pensions. "PowerCenter is a powerful platform on which we have built a flexible and cost-effective information-sharing infrastructure. This platform not only saves us time and money over custom-coded methods and enables complex data transformations across numerous third-party claims processors, but has enhanced the accuracy of our data and reduced the time it takes to put it to use."
The Board of Pensions manages a $5.5 billion dollar retirement plan as well as providing health and other benefits for pastors and other employees of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, related organizations and their families. Administration of medical, dental, pharmacy, supplemental and mental health claims is outsourced to a half dozen third-party vendors, while pension record keeping is outsourced to yet another third-party specialist.
"The Board of Pensions' implementation of PowerCenter is a perfect example of how data integration technology can be leveraged to support business process outsourcing vendors," said John Entenmann, executive vice president of corporate strategy and marketing at Informatica. "The ability to source data from any system and perform complex transformations and cleansing within tight timeframes is just as important to moving and sharing information between heterogeneous environments inside as it is outside of a company's boundaries."
PowerCenter captures the necessary data from the Board of Pensions' legacy systems, transforms it into the unique format each vendor requires, and moves the information reliably and securely into each outsourcer's systems on a daily or weekly basis. PowerCenter's codeless development and extensive reuse of transformation logic have enabled the Board of Pensions to accelerate the process of adding third-party data sources and creating new data flows and feeds.
The ELCA Board of Pensions' mission is to provide retirement, health and related benefits and services to enhance the well-being of those who serve through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and other faith-based organizations. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has 5 million members and is the fifth-largest Protestant denomination in the United States and Caribbean.
