Informatica Achieves Triple-Digit Performance Gains With Industry’s First 64-Bit Data Integration Platform

Powerful improvements in throughput and scalability on HP Integrity Superdome servers will help IT address rapidly rising data volumes and user demand

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., December 6, 2004—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today released the results of a two-month benchmark study demonstrating the outstanding performance of the newest release of the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform running on Intel® Itanium® 2 processor-based platforms and HP Integrity Superdome servers utilizing the robust HP-UX 11i v2 operating system.

The first data integration platform optimized for 64-bit performance, PowerCenter 7 delivered throughput increases of up to 211 percent over 2003 PowerCenter 6 benchmark results as well as near-linear scalability. This benchmark study demonstrated PowerCenter's ability to support large-scale data integration implementations, helping customers derive business value from real-time access to increasing volumes of data.

“The dramatic performance increases documented by these benchmark tests are indicative not only of Informatica's technology advances, but also of our ability to take advantage of the latest 64-bit technologies from Intel Corporation and HP,” said Girish Pancha, executive vice president of products at Informatica. “With rapidly mounting data volumes and increasing pressure from users for on-demand functionality, enterprises require data warehousing and operational data integration environments that will keep pace with escalating demands. As evidenced by these test results, Informatica maintains its position as one of the industry's leading providers of scalable, high-performing data integration solutions.”

The benchmark test included loading one-terabyte data sets into an Oracle-based data warehouse while performing complex transformations. PowerCenter 7 across 64 CPUs loaded in one hour and 35 minutes, representing a 211 percent performance improvement over last year's PowerCenter 6 benchmark. In addition, in load tests run using 16-, 32- and 64-CPU HP Integrity Superdome server configurations running HP-UX 11i v2, PowerCenter 7 exhibited near-perfect linear scalability. Throughput per CPU remained consistent with no more than three percent variance across all data sets, indicating that PowerCenter made optimal use of each CPU's processing power for predictable performance.

“HP Integrity Superdome servers running PowerCenter on HP-UX 11i v2 provide the performance and reliability to enable customers to synchronize IT with evolving business needs,” said Don Jenkins, vice president of marketing, Business Critical Servers, HP. “Business intelligence is one area where we are seeing more mainstream commercial UNIX® customers choose Itanium 2-based Integrity servers for comprehensive yet cost-effective data integration in complex and fast-growing 64-bit information environments. These benchmark results show why.”

“Intel Itanium 2 processors deliver outstanding performance and scalability to enterprise applications with intensive workloads, including large-scale data warehousing and real-time business analysis,” said Melissa Laird, general manager of Intel's Software Enabling Division. “The excellent benchmark results for the PowerCenter platform illustrate how effectively Intel Itanium 2 processor-based platforms can support increasingly demanding data integration situations.”

Performance testing for PowerCenter 7 was accomplished using a 64-CPU HP Integrity Superdome server equipped with 1.5 GHz Intel Itanium 2 processors. CPU configurations varied from 8, 16, 32 and 64 CPUs for specific tests. Data sets for the tests were generated by the industry-standard TPC Benchmark H (TPC-H) utility with representative business data being loaded into an Oracle 9i database. Disk storage was provided by an HP StorageWorks XP128 Disk Array.
