University Of Illinois Standardizes On Informatica Data Integration Platform

70,000-student university system implements Informatica PowerCenter to help enhance its educational offerings

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 18, 2005—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that the University of Illinois has successfully standardized on the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform for data warehousing, data consolidation and system migration. With PowerCenter as a critical enabling technology, the university has developed a data warehousing solution that will empower its faculty and staff with the ability to help improve student recruitment and retention efforts, and more efficiently manage faculty, administrative and staff resources.

“Selected following the stringent Request for Proposal (RFP) process used by the University of Illinois, Informatica and PowerCenter were chosen as the data integration standard by the university to help deliver a more complete and timely version of a common data set to university personnel,” said Andrea Ballinger, director of data warehousing at the University of Illinois. “We use it daily to provide a data resource that supports effective decision-making and management for faculty, staff and students.  PowerCenter is very effective at consolidating data in new and valuable ways, enabling analysts throughout the three university-system campuses to more effectively leverage information to improve the educational process.”

“University of Illinois has an impressive technical heritage, from the ILLIAC computer to the creation of MOSAIC,” said John Entenmann, executive vice president of corporate strategy and marketing at Informatica. “We are pleased that as the university undertook its enterprise-wide IT reengineering initiative, Informatica PowerCenter was selected as its data integration platform of choice to fulfill a wide range of strategic integration initiatives across the organization.”

The University of Illinois selected PowerCenter as part of a sweeping IT-reengineering initiative that resulted in the replacement of all core transactional systems relating to students, finance, recruiting and admissions and human resources.  By tapping into the university’s fast-growing data warehouse, administrators and college and departmental personnel can more precisely perform analyses such as tracking spending to budgets, evaluating student needs and staffing requirements, targeting and soliciting prospective students, tracking students through the admissions process, and identifying risk factors contributing to student and staff attrition.

PowerCenter is also being used by the university for a large-scale data migration effort that involves moving one terabyte of data from numerous mainframe systems into an Oracle database. The university also intends to leverage PowerCenter to consolidate a broad range of heterogeneous applications and databases, both internal and external to the university.

The University of Illinois enrolls more than 70,000 students, primarily on campuses in Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign. The university employs approximately 23,000 people and maintains an annual operating budget of $3.3 billion.
