Informatica Innovation Awards Recognize Champions In Enterprise Data Integration
Sixth-annual awards highlight the increasingly broad value of Informatica-powered solutions
INFORMATICA WORLD 2005, Washington,
June 7, 2005—Recognizing leading global companies that have set new standards in leveraging enterprise data integration to achieve significant business and IT benefits, Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA) today presented the 2005 Informatica Innovation Awards to customers Cerner, Galp Energia, Lehman Brothers, RCI, Telemar Norte Leste, Thomson Financial/BETA Systems and United Overseas Bank. The winners were recognized by Sohaib Abbasi, president and CEO of Informatica, who presented the award trophies at the closing session of Informatica World 2005 in Washington, D.C.
“Informatica is continuing to see an increased number of customers using enterprise data integration solutions outside of traditional data warehousing and into the areas of data migration, synchronization and outsourcing,” said John Entenmann, executive vice president of corporate strategy and marketing at Informatica. “These seven companies are setting the pace for achieving competitive advantage and new levels of business efficiency through enterprise integration—we are pleased to have had a hand in their success.”
The winners of the Informatica Innovation Awards for 2005 are:
- Integration Competency Center (ICC): Lehman Brothers
Transitioning from a system in which most data integration projects were conducted at a departmental level, financial services powerhouse Lehman Brothers established an enterprise ICC to centralize the skills, processes and technologies required for innumerable data integration projects around the world. Leveraged by developers in the U.S., Europe and Asia, Lehman’s ICC has helped the company achieve performance gains upwards of 2,000 percent. Powered by the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform, Lehman’s enterprise-level, best-practices approach to data integration has also helped it to eliminate multiple hardware and software redundancies, significantly reduce support costs and shave countless man-hours from its integration projects.
- Cross-Enterprise Data Integration: Cerner Corp.
A global supplier of healthcare IT solutions, Cerner provides the industry's leading electronic medical record software. To support clientele with certain requirements, Cerner offers its solutions, which include the Health Facts national healthcare research data base, through an ASP model. To provide these customers with value-added reporting and intelligence that allow them to improve hospital performance, Cerner implemented a cross-enterprise data integration solution using PowerCenter to integrate data to and from both hosted and client-site applications. In the case of Health Facts, this allowed Cerner to capture the data generated by Cerner applications into the Health Facts data warehouse, aggregate it and develop robust reports that enabled healthcare organizations to identify areas for intervention and improvement. Similarly, Cerner utilized PowerCenter to collect data for the company’s PowerInsight analytic application, which provides customers with a direct path from data collection to decision-making, merging clinical, financial and operational data and scientific content into a single data warehouse.
- Data Migration: Galp Energia
Portuguese petroleum company, Galp Energia, implemented a pioneering Analytical Marketing System based on transactions generated at petrol stations across Portugal and Spain in which customers can pay by placing their thumbs on a glass screen, or using their fleet and loyalty cards. To enhance visibility into its customers and improve the company’s overall revenue stream, Galp Energia undertook a project to migrate the large amount of data generated by this system into a CRM data center. Utilizing Accenture’s CRM, business intelligence and technology expertise, Galp Energia used PowerCenter to migrate historical data from 300 million sales transactions across 10,000 products as well as all current transactions. Replacing a previously hand-coded effort, Galp Energia was able to leverage PowerCenter to simplify and increase the reliability of its migration project—and reduce the time needed to complete the same process from 120 to eight hours.
- Data Synchronization: RCI
RCI, the global leader in vacation exchange, successfully synchronized data across various systems in the company, resulting in data integration development time being slashed by 50 percent. Using PowerCenter in concert with Informatica PowerExchange mainframe connectivity software, RCI provided holistic data access by synchronizing data across internal systems and databases, including mainframe, Siebel, SAS, Oracle and SQL Server systems. The ability of PowerExchange to capture changes when they happen and propagate them to RCI's EAI/ETL backbone saves RCI time and bandwidth, and enables solutions to be based on very current copies of RCI's key DB2 and IMS data.
- Single View of Customer: Telemar Norte Leste
Telemar, one of the largest South American telecommunications services providers, implemented a customer data warehouse using PowerCenter to achieve a 360-degree customer view, integrating wireline, wireless, broadband and long distance operations up to the household level. With the assistance of IBM-BCS, Telemar established its data integration architecture, which included PowerExchange for extracting mainframe data. The resulting infrastructure dramatically reduced the time required to access data, particularly from the mainframe, thus providing users with up-to-date information. At the same time, the holistic customer views helped optimize Telemar's marketing expenditures and vastly improved the cross-selling of its many products.
- Data Warehousing: United Overseas Bank (UOB)
Globalization has led to an escalating number of customers requiring a cross-boundary banking relationship with UOB, a leading bank in Singapore with 385 offices around the world. Thus the benefits of integrating data across the different countries into a single global data warehouse has become far-reaching for its business applications. Partnering with Knowledge Dynamics, UOB consolidated data using PowerCenter from 26 disparate IT systems across three countries into the global data warehouse. The timely and accurate data collected was then leveraged by its downstream systems, such as the Collections System, for more effective recovery of delinquent accounts. This has resulted in a 20 percent reduction of non-performing loans in Singapore within the first six months of implementation.
- Real-time: Thomson Financial/BETA Systems
BETA Systems, the brokerage software and services division of Thomson Financial, used PowerCenter Real Time and PowerCenter Connect for MQ Series software to add real-time notification functionality of various events happening on the source system. BETA Systems routed messages to PowerCenter, where the software filtered out extraneous information, allowing only specific messages that met the criteria to be passed on to customer workflow applications. This enabled BETA Systems to come to market quickly and at a relatively low hardware, software and personnel cost, resulting in the immediate landing of a very large new customer.
