Informatica Introduces Newest Release Of Its Velocity Implementation Methodology
Best practices-based framework expands to address Integration Competency Centers, data migration, consolidation and synchronization projects
INFORMATICA WORLD 2005, Washington,
June 7, 2005—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced a major expansion of Velocity, a unique implementation framework based on field-proven best practices, methodologies and templates for enterprise data integration. Freely available to Informatica customers, Velocity now extends the program’s library to encompass all Informatica products and options, including PowerCenter Advanced Edition and PowerExchange, and addresses the full range of today’s data warehousing, consolidation, migration, synchronization and Integration Competency Center (ICC) projects.
“Drawing upon the broad experience our consulting practice has gained from hundreds of successful projects, Velocity is designed to help customers get the most out of their Informatica solutions,” said Tim Dilley, senior vice president of customer services of Informatica. “As the use of Informatica’s data integration products continues to extend beyond traditional data warehousing, Velocity has expanded accordingly to encompass all the types of projects that PowerCenter and PowerExchange are suited for—whether implementing an ICC, accessing mainframe data, migrating legacy applications or managing metadata.”
Launched in 1999, the Velocity program is available to Informatica customers through the company’s Web-based customer portal. The core of the program is its large library of best practices documentation and data mapping templates, and a unique workflow model that guides implementers through all activities pertinent to specific types of integration projects.
Velocity has now expanded to include two new workflow implementation phases (Analyze and Test), 169 articles and 47 best practices documents based on the field experiences of Informatica customers, consultants and Informatica personnel. Among the new best practices are those for leveraging advanced data integration functionality such as metadata analysis, data-ready reporting, grid computing and team development, all of which are core capabilities of PowerCenter Advanced Edition. In addition, Velocity now provides a detailed framework for implementing various ICC models, including a recommended set of shared services, mappings, methodologies and policies.
“Informatica's Velocity has been a great starter kit, providing us with a core foundation of methodologies and best practices for a number of our data integration projects, including legacy system migration, OLTP and mainframe file source integration, and the development and loading of an operational data store for enterprise reporting,” said Peter Zabaldo, senior systems engineer at Cendant TRG. “Now that Velocity has expanded to cover a broader spectrum of data integration-related technical topics, we’ll be able to bring a host of new enterprise-wide projects under its best practices umbrella to help accelerate implementation and ensure continued success.”
