Informatica Joins OASIS To Help Define Role Of Enterprise Data Integration In Service-Oriented Architectures

Consortium membership underscores increasing importance of data integration in SOAs to reduce IT complexity and ensure data consistency across the enterprise

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., November 7, 2005—Recognizing the critical interdependence between enterprise data integration and service-oriented architectures (SOA), Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA) today announced it has joined the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), a consortium focused on the development and adoption of SOA standards and protocols. Informatica’s membership in OASIS highlights the rich, data-focused functionality and shared-services approach that a data integration platform provides an SOA to reduce IT complexity and ensure data consistency.

“Data integration technologies play a crucial role in enabling an SOA to deliver on its full potential. Conversely, SOA provides a flexible and interoperable framework for implementing data integration capabilities across a broad variety of platforms and systems,” said James Bryce Clark, director of standards development at OASIS. “Participation in OASIS will enable Informatica to team with other industry experts to further the development of common, open standards for service-oriented data integration.”

SOA is a design approach for exposing business-relevant application and data functionality to a variety of users and business processes through loosely coupled, reusable services, leveraging open standards for interoperability. Data integration technology supports SOAs by providing open, standards-based data services capabilities, including data access, data quality, semantic reconciliation, data governance and cross-system metadata, optimizing the availability of information across the enterprise.  In addition, data integration technology provides a core foundation for an Integration Competency Center, which serves as a best practices methodology for organizing resources and managing an SOA.
