Informatica Customer Fairfax County Public Schools Wins Prestigious CIO Enterprise Value Award
PowerCenter data integration platform helps school system achieve compliance with No Child Left Behind Act
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.,
March 13, 2006—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced Virginia’s Fairfax County Public Schools has won a coveted 2006 CIO Magazine Enterprise Value Award for its patented Education Decision Support Library (EDSL), a comprehensive repository of educational information built on top of the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform. Due to the program’s tremendous success, Fairfax County Public Schools is now offering EDSL to school districts across the country to help schools comply with the federally mandated No Child Left Behind Act.
One of the largest educational data warehouses of its kind, EDSL was developed by the 164,000-student school system to assess student achievement, refine educational strategies and allocate resources. Since implementation, EDSL helped the school district to improve instructional decision making, use resources more effectively, and provide immediate access to high quality data. In just the last three years, the school district realized a seven-fold increase in the number of administrators and teachers accessing the site, and most importantly, EDSL had a positive impact on the performance and achievements of its students.
EDSL is now offered nationwide to help educational organizations achieve similar results. For districts that do not have the resources to manage EDSL internally, Fairfax County Public Schools also works with Insystech, an application service provider that offers a cost-effective hosted approach.
“EDSL allows us to integrate huge volumes of complex data across multiple sources so educators can make decisions based on complete, accurate and timely information. We selected Informatica PowerCenter technology as the foundation for this system,” said Gary Policastro, data services manager at Fairfax County Public Schools. “In addition, PowerCenter supports EDSL’s application service provider model with robust security and flexible data delivery options. We are happy to extend the benefits we’ve received from EDSL to other districts that might not have the technology, resources or budget to develop such a solution.”
“We congratulate Fairfax County Public Schools on this latest award for EDSL, and are pleased that PowerCenter was selected as the foundation for such a worthy IT initiative,” said Karen Steele, vice president of corporate marketing at Informatica. “EDSL provides a powerful illustration of how Informatica customers are extending their data integration capabilities to achieve ever greater benefits, and also underscores how—from the U.S. Department of Education to an increasing number of major universities and school systems—PowerCenter is becoming the standard for data integration in public education.”
