Informatica And Deloitte Consulting LLP Customer Nationwide Wins DM Review 2006 World Class Solution Award

Insurance leader’s focus on data management drives business agility and enhanced regulatory compliance support

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., August 7, 2006—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA) and Deloitte Consulting LLP (Deloitte Consulting) today announced that joint customer Nationwide has won DM Review’s coveted 2006 World Class Solution Award in the category of Data Management. Nationwide won the award for its ground-breaking FOCUS finance data-management initiative, a multi-year undertaking on the part of Nationwide to transform its global enterprise finance function, leveraging its service providers, Deloitte Consulting and Informatica.

As a result of its two-year transformation effort, completed on time and on budget, Nationwide now possesses a cohesive enterprise-wide information environment – leading to more effective decision making, enhanced regulatory compliance support and increased business agility. Throughout the FOCUS initiative, Deloitte Consulting worked side-by-side with Nationwide, following a “co-lead” model in which each key leader on the Nationwide team had a direct counterpart on the Deloitte Consulting team. Informatica PowerCenter Advanced Edition was selected as the data integration backbone that unifies the entire FOCUS ecosystem into a single platform used by over 2,000 business users at all levels and across all Nationwide business units.

“FOCUS is substantively transforming Nationwide with timely, accurate and consistent information across all system and organizational boundaries, enabling the finance department to play a more impactful, forward-looking role enterprise wide,” said Lance Dacre, director of data governance for Nationwide. “Notably, FOCUS has strengthened user confidence as well as our regulatory compliance efforts through enhanced data governance, transparency and auditability.”

Among the key attributes of FOCUS is its use of metadata as a central cohesive element. PowerCenter captures and manages metadata – extracting three million rows every four hours – across all FOCUS components, including 200 legacy applications. Leveraging dashboard views, business users readily track data lineage, determine the data fields that need to be populated to ensure consistency across applications, and assess the effects of change across systems – all of which has resulted in a substantial reduction in the time and effort required to validate and report on Nationwide’s financial processes.

“With its FOCUS initiative, Nationwide has comprehensively addressed the perennial problems of inconsistent data, limited business visibility and insufficient data management, and has done so on a truly enterprise scale,” said Mary Jo Nott, editor in chief of DM Review. “Nationwide, along with its service providers Deloitte Consulting and Informatica, is to be congratulated for the breadth of its vision and for its successful implementation.”

The DM Review World Class Solution Awards are symbols of excellence within the business intelligence and data integration industry.  Nationwide was selected from among 70 entries by a panel of industry-expert judges that assessed each entry's impact, relevance and innovation.
