The Informatica User Group was founded in 2001 in response to a grassroots effort that was begun via a few dedicated users. Today, the Informatica User Group has grown to more than 10,000 members worldwide, with more than 60 volunteer user leaders setting the course for over 30 chapters.
The Informatica User Group’s mission focuses on delivering value in three key areas:
- Educating users about ways to better use and leverage Informatica products and various related applications
- Offering networking opportunities for the Informatica community at large
- Providing a forum for product advocacy
Benefits
Local User Group Chapters. Since 2001, the Informatica User Group has grown to more than 30 chapters around the world. Each chapter meets two times a year, where members have an opportunity to interact with each other and Informatica representatives regarding best practices, tips and tricks, and future technological innovations. Each year, the IUG conducts 50-60 total meetings, netting 4,000 attendees from 1,200 unique companies. Some cities draw 100+ attendees.
Product Enhancement Process (PEP). This process offers User Group members the opportunity to play an influential role in future product developments at Informatica. Users engage in a collective process to prioritize future product enhancements including new features and functions — nominating, voting, and communicating their product suggestions directly to the Informatica engineering team.
(new!) Discussion Forums. User group members can now connect in a virtual way through the new online discussion forums. Users may select a variety of topic areas and post questions, tips or workaround ideas to other users. The forums are user-only, and are not managed or monitored by Informatica staff.
User-only Web Site. User Group members have access to a dedicated User Group Web site at my.informatica.com. The site provides “nuts-and-bolts” information about the User Group, news about upcoming chapter meetings, and details about the Product Enhancement Process. Past presentations are also archived on the site for reference.
Special Interest Groups. Each year the IUG sponsors more than a dozen Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the Informatica World conference. The sessions are free, informal, and offer a chance for users to exchange ideas with other users interested in the same topic in a roundtable setting.
Ad Hoc Committee & Advisory Boards. Periodically, user group members will be offered the opportunity to participate in special ad hoc committees that convene for a particular purpose or topic. Some of the committees IUG members have participated in the past include product beta advisory boards, usability councils, web committees, and the Informatica World content committee.
Member Satisfaction Survey. Once a year, the Informatica User Group conducts a member satisfaction survey to assess current and future directions.
