Informatica to Introduce Migration Readiness Assessment Framework during Web Seminar on Data Migration

New framework uncovers pitfalls and hidden complexities of data migration projects

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.,  November 14, 2006—Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced it will introduce its Migration Readiness Assessment (MRA) framework during a co-hosted Web seminar with SAP (NYSE: SAP), the world's leading provider of business software. Informatica's MRA framework is a diagnostic and strategic exercise that gives project managers insight into the scope and complexity of data migration projects.

Philip Howard, Research Director at analyst firm Bloor Research said "It is estimated that there are over 40,000 application migration projects going on. The growing demands of mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, outsourcing and IT spend consolidation are some of the reasons organizations are migrating data from existing legacy applications into new systems. And migrating or converting data is one of the biggest challenges in an application migration project."

Project managers responsible for migrating data from legacy systems into new applications have to deal with unknowns on both ends of the project. The data in the existing systems is often not fully known, of poor quality, and with limited documentation; while the data required by the target system is also not fully known since the target system is often still in development. Consequently, the task of converting data from existing legacy systems is one of the most underestimated parts of a data migration project, often leading to budget overruns and project delays.

"The Migration Readiness Assessment framework is based on best-practices gained from over 100 large scale data migration projects," said Arvind Parthasarathi, senior director, solutions at Informatica. "By using the MRA framework, we believe that project managers can better scope, estimate and plan their data migrations and therefore potentially lessen or avoid costly project overruns and complexities."

Informatica will highlight its MRA framework for scoping and estimating data migration projects on Wednesday, November 15, during the SAP co-hosted Web seminar entitled "Accelerating Time To Value of SAP Data Migration Initiatives." The free reservations-only seminar will be Web cast. To register, please visit: http://w.on24.com/r.htm?e=30571&s=1&k=6EEABA2473AF7B4278494D898CB2E2C5
