With Team-Based Development, PowerCenter AE provides repository-based, object-level versioning, which lets you reuse development assets—including source definitions, target definitions, codified business rules, metadata, end-user reports. You can check out versioned assets from the repository, make edits, and check them back in. You can label versioned development assets using rich metadata stored in the repository, which lets you track versioned assets during development and link multiple assets into deployment groups. Labels simplify queries, making the task of searching for assets in the repository easier and faster. These capabilities enable development teams to work more effectively on complex projects and reduce the risk of errors.
Reduces Administrative Effort
Team-Based Development provides static and dynamic deployment groups, which automate development asset migration and reduce administrative efforts. If you know which specific asset you wish to deploy, you can use this feature's static deployment group and deploy them by name, using the asset label. If you don't know which assets you need, or if you’re migrating large numbers of assets, you can use the dynamic deployment group to execute a query at the time of deployment. For example, a dynamic query can identify all mappings that are dependent on a given source definition or asset in specified folders created within a specified range of dates. The dynamic deployment group collects and copies the results of the query to the target repository.
Minimizes Project Risk
Team-Based Development stores a complete history of changes to development assets and of all migrations, which lets you view any version of the development asset. The feature offers full audit trail and rollback capabilities, which let you compare versions, view changes to the development asset over time, and return to a prior version. These capabilities improve project quality and reduce project risk.
