PowerExchange for Mainframe and Midrange
Secure, scalable, real-time access to enterprise data
PowerExchange forms the foundation of a highly scalable real-time data integration environment. By providing unified access to enterprise data on z/OS, z/Linux, or i5/OS, PowerExchange allows data to be accessed without needing extensive mainframe and midrange skills that are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. Data is easily brought into Informatica PowerCenter for sophisticated transformation or for cleansing by Informatica Data Quality. When processing is complete, PowerExchange applies any desired updates to the data store of choice, whether operational, such as DB2 or Oracle, or to stand alone data warehouses or data marts.
Key Features
Change Data Capture (CDC) provides real-time updates from operational data stores
- Distills changes from background data
- Captures changes once and routes them to multiple applications
- Optionally condenses multiple updates and presents only the latest version of each
- Supports push and pull models for user-selectable latency
Integrate mainframe and midrange data with data on open systems
- Provides a uniform interface for accessing all supported sources and targets
- Requires no specialized programming skills to access mainframe-based data, including pre-relational databases and file systems
- Fully interoperable with PowerCenter and PowerExchange running on Linux, UNIX, and Windows platforms
Optimized for each specific data store
- Honors the security model of supported data stores
- Uses native interfaces and high-speed access APIs
- Automatically leverages the data store's metadata to speed development
Benefits
Improve data capture timeliness Reducing the latency of data capture allows an organization to provide better customer service, lower costs, and improved internal operations. By augmenting PowerExchange's batch extraction capabilities with the timely data access afforded by CDC, data can be delivered in real-time or on any chosen schedule for downstream data quality processes, data warehouse construction, or any other data integration needs.
Reduce Development Costs Developing database access code is time-consuming, error-prone, and ultimately costly. Even a simple SQL script typically takes more time to develop, debug, and implement than it does to make a few selections in PowerExchange. More complex access-especially to the pre-relational systems commonly used on mainframes-requires much more time to build, and the necessary development skills are becoming scarcer and more costly every day. Some access mechanisms, such as using complex vendor APIs or building home-grown CDC technology, are cost-prohibitive to build locally, preventing many organizations from taking advantage of the operational improvements that more timely data capture can provide.
Reduce machine resource requirements As data volumes increase and processing windows shrink, it is an advantage, and sometimes a necessity to process only the changes. This reduces hardware resource requirements, helping to contain costs and even defer the necessity of hardware upgrades. When administrative and other costs are included, the savings incurred with change data capture can be considerable.
