3 Key Takeaways from the 2021 Gartner® Critical Capabilities for Data Integration Tools

Gartner® just released its 2021 Critical Capabilities for Data Integration Tools report that assesses data integration vendors’ solutions across 11 capabilities required to support 4 Use Cases: Data Engineering, Cloud Migration, Operational Data Integration, and Data Fabric. This report sheds light on the growing interest in augmented data integration. According to Gartner, “Active metadata-enabled data integration augmentation and automation are significant drivers for design and operations management of a data integration platform.” [1] We believe the significant benefits of augmented, automated data integration are exemplified in this Gartner prediction that, “Through 2022, manual data management tasks will be reduced by 45% through the addition of machine learning and automated service-level management.” [2]

We are proud to receive high scores across all data integration use cases in this report. We believe this is a testament to Informatica’s continued innovation in our Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC)  platform, enabling us to achieve autonomous data management for our customers. We are excited to share that Informatica achieved the highest scores in Data Fabric (4.16/5.0) and Cloud Migration (4.26/5.0)Use Cases and is among the 2 top vendors for Data Engineering  and Operational Data Integration Use Cases.

Here are our key takeaways from Gartner’s report.

1. Data Fabric is an emerging use case

Data Fabric is a forward-looking use case enabled by active metadata and augmented data integration capabilities. It is a design concept and an architecture that abstracts the complexity of a hybrid, multi-cloud data landscape. A data fabric ensures that any data on any platform from any location can be successfully combined, accessed, shared, and governed effectively to drive improved business outcomes.

Informatica enables the Data Fabric use case with an AI-powered intelligent data catalog, enterprise metadata knowledge graph, Enterprise Data Preparation, and automated orchestration by employing DataOps. Our active metadata-based AI and ML engine, CLAIRE, learns your data landscape and automates thousands of manual tasks.

Informatica earned the  highest rating for Data Fabric. We believe this clearly differentiates our offering as a future-proofed investment, establishing us as one of the leading choices for Data Fabric implementations.

2. Investment in cloud migration capabilities increases

Investment by organizations in cloud migration capabilities is increasing as organizations seek to leverage data ingestion and integration tools to move data to cloud data warehouses in modernizing their analytics.

Informatica received the  highest rating for the Cloud Migration use case. Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS) enables pushdown ELT optimizations for complex data integration pipelines, processing data closer to where it resides. Our Cloud Mass Ingestion capability ingests large volumes of data from multiple disparate sources to cloud repositories for processing and reporting, or to messaging hubs for real-time analytics.

3. Low-code/no-code data integration is a must-have

As more and more subject matter experts and citizen integrators assume data integration tasks, integration tools should incorporate self-service integration for less technically skilled personas. IICS empowers non-technical data practitioners with a low-code/no-code experience while enabling data engineers to deploy highly scalable data integration pipelines for both data-in-motion and data-at-rest.
